Current Work

Amita Sen Gupta is a Toronto based visual artist who, in 1997, graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design with a Diploma in Fine Arts. During that time she had two exhibitions in Florence, Italy where she had received the "Charles Magee Award." In 2007 Amita's painting titled "Yuletide in Muddy York" had been chosen, and was transformed into a pewter Christmas ornament, which was sold across Toronto.

Her oil paintings focus on object and emotion: as matter holding memory. Her subjects have been worn and discarded shoes and vacant buildings; simple objects that hold an impression of time and the emotions of life lived. The colours used tend to be muted, and have quietness to them.

Amita has had solo shows at galleries across Toronto including Propeller Gallery and VL Custom Gallery. Her work has been featured in many group shows in Ontario including Red Head Gallery, Gallery 1313, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, and the Art Rental and Sales Gallery (Art Gallery of Ontario).

Her paintings can be found in private collections in Canada, and Germany. Amita has taught individuals visual art through the years. She has been an art consultant at the Art Rental and Sales Gallery, Art Gallery of Ontario for over eight years.
